Shantal Anderson

I’m currently a sophomore majoring in Mass Communication with the aspiration to work in the field of broadcasting and journalism. I have a vast interest in Foreign Language and have taken the opportunity to practice Japanese and Spanish. In the spare time I dance with our campus University Dance Company. I’m also highly involved in Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) to help make our school a better place to live and learn.
I’m running for President to help improve residential life on campus and continue with the help of student voices being heard at the Village Council meetings and beyond. After serving for 1 year as President, I have been able to see my mistakes made and halt them from happening again. I have also been able to improve my leadership and interaction skills with the people I worked with and the residents I’ve seen everyday. I have many envisions for the Fall quarter of next year to help with our residential life on campus and progress more residential opportunities on campus. After working closely with ASI, I have been able to network with many other student leaders on campus as well as off campus.
The skills I consider myself to have are generosity, ambitiousness, openness to criticism and a willingness to learn, which are the most important qualities every student should have serving in any leadership position.
Living on campus is essential because it helps improve grades, helps students become more interactive on campus, and develops a more socialistic atmosphere, which every student deserves when going to college.
Three things I would improve to make living on campus more desirable would be massive student programming catered to social events, education success, diversity and drug and alcohol awareness. Also, improve upgraded and renovated Residence Halls and on-campus shuttle transportation to take residents to surrounding areas of business for their convenience.
Two goals I want RHA E-Board to have for 2008-2009 would be to demonstrate and practicing a closer community within housing and the E-Board. Another would be to create fun, optimistic and ambitious events for the betterment of the students.
