FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why should I live on campus?
Living on campus provides a special and unique opportunity. For many individuals, it becomes one of the only times in life when you will live with others who are different from yourselves, especially when it comes to issues like study habits, music, sleep, religion and politics.

What kind of housing is available?
There are currently two types of housing available; suite-style residence halls, where first year students are assigned and apartments where students with sophomore status and above are located.

What is required to live in university housing?
To be eligible to live in university housing, all residents must be enrolled at CSUSB. Eligibility checks are done each quarter.

Does CSUSB offer Living Learning Communities(LLC) or housing options related to life-style?
There are currently two Living Learning Communities; Global Scholars and First Year Experience. In addition, there are two life style choices; All Women and Non-traditional (25 years and older). LLC’s require a separate application process. Simply indicate on your housing application if you wish to be assigned to a specific life-style assignment.

How will I know that CSUSB has received my License Agreement and payment?
We will send confirmation that your file is complete and you are eligible for an assignment.

How long am I obligated to stay in on-Campus housing?
The License Agreement is a contract for the academic year (Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters). 12 month contracts are also available. Please consult the license agreement for cancellation requirements.

How much is the housing cost for a double room? For a single room? For a studio room?
Refer to the current License Fee Schedule.

How are roommates selected, and what if my friend and I want to live together?
Both of you would need to complete the Roommate Assignment form (provided in your application packet) and request each other by name, also indicating the same living area. Roommate requests must be mutual. Those that don’t have a preferred roommate will be assigned to another student that share the same interests.

When will I receive my room assignment?
You will receive your room assignment at move in. The Privacy of Information Act does not allow us to give you your roommate’s name. While we attempt to match roommates by similar characteristics, it is the responsibility of roommates to achieve an acceptable living relationship through communication and negotiation.

What if my roommate and I don’t get along?
Typically room changes are done the 3rd week into each quarter upon request and based on available spaces.
